On the Fence

image

It’s a squash! Somehow it started growing in the middle and continues to grow… Very odd.

All is Fine

There were lots of things I was thinking of doing today. Go to Ft. Sam and put flowers on dad’s grave, enjoy the dog show, plant at the subdivision entrance. The problem with being creative is that you can think of so many things to do with your time and they don’t all fit in a day. And so after 3 1/2 hours at the Animal Hospital last night we are at home doing not much.

Petey came in on 3 legs after his last trip outside and so I thought the worst, snake bite, so we hustled down to the hospital. By the time we got there, he was putting some weight on the foot and there was no swelling. Whew. After a baking soda poultice for 20 minutes he was better. We came home and he took two Benadryl. One too many, I think. Today he is really out of it. Gracie is still with us and in doggie day camp today. My instructions were, “Please wear her out.”

Who knew a lttle four-footed creature could so fill up a house? Yes, Gracie is still here. Petey is in his forth day of incarceration. Daily visits seem to calm him, but no touching allowed. Four more days…

I visited my jail-bird for the 2nd day since incarceration. A bit fewer curse words thrown in my direction, but, nonetheless upset at my out-here-ness and his in-here-ness. Next Thursday morning is dedicated to getting the sweetie out of Animal Care jail. Wish they separated the viscious biters from the fear biters. I am sure the ones who have been bitten do not give a damn…

Gracie after a long day in doggie day camp

Yes, Gracie is still with us. She is the same happy girlie-girlie that she has always been. And Petey really went after her the other night and scared me badly. Gracie cried, needed a hug, started wagging her tail, and within an hour was back to poking Petey with her nose and kissing him on his face. She is a marvel. Me, I am exhausted.

Parkinson’s

Our friend Casey recently passed away (died). And she had Parkinsons.

I never much cared for Michael J. Fox. But he too has Parkinsons. And he has become an incredibly active voice for Parkinsons sufferers.

“Your happiness grows in direct proportion to your acceptance and an inverse proportion to your expectations. It’s really about acceptance.” –Michael J. Fox

That is a quote from a Larry King Live interview and OMG how true is that? These are words to live by. And I see an inverse direction in our beloved country. It saddens me terribly. Instead of teaching tolerance and acceptance and a concern for our fellow citizens, there seems to be an increase in “What’s in it for me” and I am not paying for caring for “them”.

Well, sooner or later, caring for “them” is us. “Caring for us.” Let us take care of each other as was taught to us by Jesus. Let us have a lot more of living by the teachings of Jesus and a lot less of the intolerance that is taught to us by our institutions.

Don’t be misled. This is the best wildflower year in a long time. And the seasonal tradition here in Texas is photographing one’s self, family or just plainly the bluebonnets. It is strictly a Texas tradition that must be fulfilled. The picture in the bluebonnets. I, being a Californian have never understood. The wide expansions of bluebonnets are lovely.. but if Texans would stop with the grasses and not mow — bluebonnets would thrive everywhere.

The vet said only one of the four is suspicious looking. So I am living with a very unhappy camper wearing a less than lovely E-collar. And Gracie, if she could talk, would be saying in a high-pitched, snarky voice “Why are you wearing that funny hat with the hole in the front?”

Nate Has Arrived

How is it that a four-year-old can predict the gender of a baby 3 months into pregnancy? I was figuring it was a guess… but, Nathaniel Alan Brody came into the world today. And the world is a better place for it. We are an extended family enveloped in huge joy. Welcome Nate! I am deeply in love already.
