It is a fact of life. But, being logical about it doesn’t make it easier.

Dear Jamie Sue lost her Dad June 20th. He was 95. A dynamic sailor, captain of a man. And my sorrow for his passing is wrapped around my own sorrow for my dad’s passing. Their passings were dignified and gentle. And we are truly blessed knowing that. But, it is a passing into a new life with spaces left in the fabric of our own lives that is troublesome. I am not sure that space will be filled. But the hole will be remembered.

Alexi Has a New Home

Alexi's New Family

Alexi's New Family

You know how you always want to do “the right thing”? Well, I have never had a puppy before. And there were sleepless nights and tribulations. And through “angel Lindsay” we found a perfect home for the puppy. Last night the most wonderful family came over and took Alexi to their home. It is a perfect match. And I cried all evening. It is harder to let go than I expected.

Today I saw Alexi in her new home and she is happy and well-loved. What more could I ask for? So I am over the tears, well mostly.

Thank you Tracey, Ron and Ella for being the forever family that Alexi deserves!

Our friend Casey recently passed away (died). And she had Parkinsons.

I never much cared for Michael J. Fox. But he too has Parkinsons. And he has become an incredibly active voice for Parkinsons sufferers.

“Your happiness grows in direct proportion to your acceptance and an inverse proportion to your expectations. It’s really about acceptance.” –Michael J. Fox

That is a quote from a Larry King Live interview and OMG how true is that? These are words to live by. And I see an inverse direction in our beloved country. It saddens me terribly. Instead of teaching tolerance and acceptance and a concern for our fellow citizens, there seems to be an increase in “What’s in it for me” and I am not paying for caring for “them”.

Well, sooner or later, caring for “them” is us. “Caring for us.” Let us take care of each other as was taught to us by Jesus. Let us have a lot more of living by the teachings of Jesus and a lot less of the intolerance that is taught to us by our institutions.

Casey Died Today

I remember Casey as a strong willed woman and ahead of her times. But, I think she would have been happier if she had been born 30 years later. Maybe most of our mothers would have been. They wouldn’t have had to rely on their husbands for their sense of self.

As women our history has been forged on a hard fought road to freedom.

Tonight I drink a toast to Casey, not with the sweet wine she preferred. But none the less reverent.  She will be missed.

And to Casey’s family my deepest sympathies and love. Be well. Casey is, I am sure.

Noah-isms

News from the bay area:

Driving to school today, Noah commented,  “The sun follows us all the days.”  [Translation – the sun follows us all the time]
I added my two cents, “The moon does too….cool, eh?”
Noah – “Yes.  We must be pretty special.”
Indeed.  Totally tickled me to think that in Noah’s mind we have our own solar and lunar escorts.

It is my birthday. And I woke up to a dog as eager to go downstairs as any child on Christmas morning. After 3 days of 3-legging-it watching an active, eager healthy dog greet the day was as much as one can wish for. And on coming home, Rob had mowed the subdivision entrance. It truly is a day full of delightful surprises!

It is still god awful hot and humid here! We had two days of winter last week. But we are back in the nasties right now. Blessed with some rain everything is growing at an unbelievable rate — pull up a chair and watch the johnson grass grow…

This morning on our walk we discovered a lost kitteh — well, kitteh came running up to Petey “the cat killer”. I can’t begin to tell you how much I missed neighbor Deb at that moment! But, I grabbed little miss kitteh under my arm and took her to another home in the neighborhood that is inhabited by animal loving, caring beings. And they took her in. They lost a feral that looked exactly like this one. They felt they had a second chance to make things right. It is all good.

Amazing things happen upon our paths each day…

Petey, Cutest Dog on the Planet!

Petey, Cutest Dog on the Planet!

A vote for Petey is a vote for all of the stray, dumped boxers and pit bulls that have been abandoned and are deserving of forever, loving homes. There can’t be a cuter dog on the planet than a dog that has come from being dumped, starved, full of heart worms, tape worms, hook worms and flea ridden to being a dog beloved by my mother — you have to know my mother to understand how absurd it is to think that there is a dog that could jump up in her lap and lick her on the face and illicit a laugh. Spread the word — vote often!!!

Pat Deer is visiting. If she wrote the way she talks she would be the next Irma Bombeck. Really an incredible sense of words, humor and the human condition. Well. Petey slept with Pat last night. (I am not jealous or offended.) And said in the morning, “That Petey-weetie is a barnacle when he sleeps in your bed!” Yep, that’s my boy!

I noramlly hate this stuff. But when some one I love sends me one of these “forward on” thingies I take notice. It is their love I feel and honor. So with that spirit in mind:

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.”

Jamie Sue — I honor you, your creativity, your beauty and your extraordinary presence. May this fulfill your desire that I send this on to 12 people. My friends are truly my force of life. Without all of you I would be nothing. I am blessed. And I am eternally grateful.
