You surround yourself with art and music and are constantly driven to express yourself. You often daydream. You prefer honesty in your relationships and believe strongly in your personal morals.

…and now we are four. I can’t believe I am trying to care for 2 dogs, 1 puppy and almost 2 acres of property and a house. I am not doing any of it well. But I am trying my best.
The puppy is happy if not healthy. She has tape worms and mange. All of the dogs are being treated for both. To watch Gracie and Alexi (beagle mix puppy) play is a joy to behold. The newest game is puppy hiding under the bed and biting out at Gracie — both are very vocal. Petey and I are used to a quiet life, so vocalizations are new.
And it is August, so it is hot. Could be worse hot, but nonetheless, hot.

News from the bay area:
Driving to school today, Noah commented, “The sun follows us all the days.” [Translation – the sun follows us all the time]
I added my two cents, “The moon does too….cool, eh?”
Noah – “Yes. We must be pretty special.”
Indeed. Totally tickled me to think that in Noah’s mind we have our own solar and lunar escorts.

It is my birthday. And I woke up to a dog as eager to go downstairs as any child on Christmas morning. After 3 days of 3-legging-it watching an active, eager healthy dog greet the day was as much as one can wish for. And on coming home, Rob had mowed the subdivision entrance. It truly is a day full of delightful surprises!

When will it end?

My brother-in-law is in acute rehab. My brother is out of a job. My mother is being slowed down by sciatica. My largest bird feeder was destroyed by a cat leaping on it from the fence top. A cold front has blown in (full of cedar pollen). And this morning there was a Red Shouldered Hawk outside the back door. Life is happening.

After the events of the last seven days I worry for the elderly that are not blessed with a family member that is a devout advocate. Casey is so fortunate to have a daughter that is a strong advocate — and Patricia lives far away.
What of those without an advocate. They are victims of unscreened health care workers? Unhealthy kitchens, mixups in the medication and neglect.
We as a society, country, church, and neighborhood are only as good as our follow though.

I never thought it would come… and then it did. The windows are open and the air conditioning and fans are off. It feels like home, like an old familiar pair of shoes that I would prefer to wear all year but only wear for a few months here in south Texas.
There have never been as many butterflies as this year. The white crowned sparrows and meadow larks are back. That is not to say that I don’t love the painted buntings, but they come with the heavy price of hot, humid, dry summers.

They are pretty incredible as emotional stimulus. This one was pretty terrific. On contemplating the life I have, my appreciation of my mother increases exponentially year-by-year. It is a blessing that I have so much left to learn from her (age 85) and she is healthy and rigorous enough to continue to teach me. I am truly blessed. Especially with the friends and coworkers that continue to keep in touch and won’t let me forget them! It makes me feel valued and blessed for such wonderful coworkers and friends. (and if this sounds maudling (sp?) — so be it.)
