Tribute to Sappho

Favorite four-legged in Team Brody

Favorite four-legged in Team Brody

In memory of a great kitteh that enlivened and brought joy to Team Brody when it was just team Chrissy and Aaron. Her quacking spoke volumes. And the wisdom from the mouth of her 3-year-old two-legged, “Mama, you can be sad a little bit, but not too much, because Sappho is feeling better now.”

I did receive a response from American Airlines about the deplorable conditions when I tried to check bags for our flight. They said it was “unusual circumstances”. NOT. How can you possible think that on the first day of Christmas week having five empty computer stations is adequate? It is a VERY bad projection, poor planning and a hateful customer experience. No excuses. Very bad.

Went for a delightful lunch today at a small, intimate, little store with 5 cozy tables and full tea service. They also served quiche, Shepard’s Pie and soups. Very fresh and very delicious. The bread pudding and mince pie with brandy butter were also delicious. And the atmosphere was delightful. They were out of sticky toffee pudding, but I have a recipe and can make it so I wasn’t too terribly disappointed.

We checked-in online the night before. Arrived early enough to get in line for checking in a bag an hour before our flight was to leave and got to the front of the line to find out not only did we miss our flight but we had the delightful opportunity to stand in another lines for another hour to see if we could get on another flight. Jim’s doing well!

Surgery was shorter than expected. Went well. No blood used. And less pain than expected. Even though he has a morphine pump he is only using it once every 3-4 hours. That was last night. Today might be a different story.

Yesterday’s surgery was to attach a metal box to the bottom of the spine. I think it is to anchor the framework for his back.

Please pray the Thursday surgery goes just as well as yesterday. We really appreciate all prayers, good wishes and thoughts.

Mom found out she was hosting the bridge Christmas party late last week. So we put up the angels and the tree (decorated) on Saturday.

Saturday night Patricia came and we packed up Casey’s things and got her out of Geraldine’s place. We visited two nursing homes. Liked both.

Monday Casey was evaluated by hospice and accepted to the program. (Her lungs are filling with fluid and her diaphragm is no longer strong enough for her to cough it up.) Yesterday Patricia got Casey ready to move into Morningside Ministries nursing facility and at 5:30 p.m. she found out they won’t take Secure Horizons patients. (What is with that!!!)

While she was doing that I was at the dentist — I had lost a crown. And a weather alert was issued for freezing rain and sleet, so I let Mom know so that she could work herself into a frenzy over whether the bridge party was on or off. Should have kept my mouth shut — weather is cold, but no parcipitation.

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving came and went. And I wrapped myself in the joy of my family. There were a few downers. Casey and Alan to name two. But it was joyous all the same. I just love sharing my kitchen with others that love to cook, eat and drink. My next house needs a larger kitchen to hold all of the fun. Petey was all about endless kisses for Noah. And the birds enjoyed the view into the house as we enjoyed our view to the outside.
