Black lab mix foster dog, Gracie

Gracie, more serious than usual

Well, if you are wondering where my wonderful USAA employee bonus went, take a look inside Gracie’s mouth. Her teeth are now beautiful. And none were abscessed or pulled. She drinks water much more comfortably. She has never had a problem eating — and proved it this morning by eating an entire dead bird, feet, beak, feathers and all. Yuck.

I am hoping to get some help finding Gracie a forever home from www.animalfriendsforever.org (Thank you Dr. K, you are awesome!)

Update on Jim

He is allowed to go up stairs and walk around the block. Good news as he is very bored. The cardiologist performed an angiogram and there will be another test next week. All to determine the right way to proceed.

My Brother Had a Heart Attack

There I said it. The phone call to my sister was probably the hardest phone call my sister-in-law has ever had to make — except for maybe calling my mom.

Jim was golfing. It is one of his favorite things to do. He started feeling really, really lousy. One of his buddies had nitroglycerin on him and put it under Jim’s tongue, then called 911. Jim actually flat-lined in the ambulance. A shunt was put into one of his arteries that was 100% blocked.

He is home, very tired and resting a lot. He will have a least one more surgery for the other blockages.

Today is my brother’s birthday. And he is very lucky to be alive. And I am very grateful that he is still with us.

Gracie and a bone

Gracie loves a good knuckle bone

Another month, another foster dog. This story is really sad. Two black dogs were dumped at my subdivision entrance. When I went down to get my mail it was dark. There was a black dog in the ditch. I grabbed her. The people living in the house closest flagged me down — there were two dogs dumped. One had been hit by a car. I grabbed the injured dog and we headed for pet emergency. The injured dog had to be put down. Her lungs were filling up with blood. She was drowning in her own blood! Ugh. They scanned for chips — no chips, no tags, no collars. Both dogs had blackened teeth. The vet said it was caused by distemper. So both dogs had survived distemper only to be dumped.

And so Gracie, Petey and I have been sharing the homestead. Petey beats up on Gracie regularly, so I want to find her a place where she will get all of the loving she deserves. She is surprisingly quiet with no shedding. She is a very happy girl. Weighs about 38 lbs. Black Lab is my best guess at her breed. She is very, very loving. She inhales her food — so she probably had to fight for food in her past life.
