Parents Die

It is a fact of life. But, being logical about it doesn’t make it easier.

Dear Jamie Sue lost her Dad June 20th. He was 95. A dynamic sailor, captain of a man. And my sorrow for his passing is wrapped around my own sorrow for my dad’s passing. Their passings were dignified and gentle. And we are truly blessed knowing that. But, it is a passing into a new life with spaces left in the fabric of our own lives that is troublesome. I am not sure that space will be filled. But the hole will be remembered.

War on Abortion

I read this headline on npr.com today and it made me nauseous. When will people understand that making abortion illegal does not make abortion go away — preventing unwanted pregnancy makes abortion go away. And if family planning funding is reduced, abortions increase. Doh.

One comment: “George Carlin said it all.” drew me in to watch this video… it is hysterically funny.

Well, I am cheap, so I am not willing to pay to upgrade and add video, sorry. Will try Facebook… I had the pleasure of watching my niece’s Junior Recital this last weekend. It was awesome. She is a very talented musician. It wasn’t a flawless performance. But that is the whole point. She didn’t have to do a Junior Recital. It is voluntary. And it was a great performance experience. The food spread afterwards for the reception was also exceptional. My sister-in-law creates an awesome spread.

Snow in San Antonio!

Snow on House

Snow on House

Snow in Backyard

Technically, does this even qualify as a dusting?

O.K. to those of you — even in Texas, this isn’t much to shout about. Not even enough for a snow angel. But, it was enough to be pretty and crunch under my feet. And enough to work from home and take breaks to offer liquid water and seeds to the birdies throughout the day. Six inches would have been nicer…

Wreath for Dad

Fort Sam has done some restoration. Dad’s headstone looks reset. A few little chips on top. Happy holidays to Dad. You are missed.

What is it? A bad fix for bad construction errors in my house. A working dryer vent.

A.R.F.

This young couple that left San Antonio as soon as they could get back to their beloved Northeast didn’t leave behind the deplorable state of unwanted pets here. They are returning to save them one van load at a time. When I read about their efforts it made me cry. Really awesome work.

Alexi Has a New Home

Alexi's New Family

Alexi's New Family

You know how you always want to do “the right thing”? Well, I have never had a puppy before. And there were sleepless nights and tribulations. And through “angel Lindsay” we found a perfect home for the puppy. Last night the most wonderful family came over and took Alexi to their home. It is a perfect match. And I cried all evening. It is harder to let go than I expected.

Today I saw Alexi in her new home and she is happy and well-loved. What more could I ask for? So I am over the tears, well mostly.

Thank you Tracey, Ron and Ella for being the forever family that Alexi deserves!

…and now we are four. I can’t believe I am trying to care for 2 dogs, 1 puppy and almost 2 acres of property and a house. I am not doing any of it well. But I am trying my best.

The puppy is happy if not healthy. She has tape worms and mange. All of the dogs are being treated for both. To watch Gracie and Alexi (beagle mix puppy) play is a joy to behold. The newest game is puppy hiding under the bed and biting out at Gracie — both are very vocal. Petey and I are used to a quiet life, so vocalizations are new.

And it is August, so it is hot. Could be worse hot, but nonetheless, hot.
